What we have accomplished this week: This week Naomi and I went to our shelter and we performed our makeovers on the women. It was an absolutely amazing experience! We finished up some shopping and got more eyeliner and supplies. We stayed in our budget of 150 dollars with all of the supplies we bought for this project. We arrived to the shelter on Monday night with our mentor and a few other girls we invited to come with us. We went in, met all the women and children, and did makeovers on all of them. We listened to their stories, and they were all very amazing women.
What we are working on now: Right now we are working on getting ready for our TED talk, we are getting our lip balm and cards that we made all together and we are going to start writing notes for our TED talk.
What we will be working on next week: Next, Naomi and I will be working on our TED talk, but we will really start working on what we are planning to say and how we are planning to display everything.

What we have accomplished this week: This week Naomi and I successfully packaged our lip balm, and finished our last batches of lip balm. We went shopping and bought all our makeup for our trip to the center on Monday, March 6. Also this week, Naomi and I called our mentor and got our place set up and the date of it. We are going to women's shelter on March 6 at 7:15 pm and we will be bringing a group of around 6-8 friends or family members with us to help give makeovers to these women. There will be a group of about 8 women at the shelter. We also went to the store and got thank you cards to work on on Friday in genius hour.
What we are working on now: Right now we are working on writing on all of our thank you cards and we are finalizing all of our details for our visit to the women's shelter. We are also getting all of our supplies together. Below is a sample of one of the cards we are writing.
What we will be working on next week: Next week we will head over to the women's shelter on Monday and we will begin our makeovers. We are so excited to meet the women!
What we have accomplished this week: This week Saylor and I got together to contact our mentor. We successfully accomplished contacting our mentor and finding a good time to Skype this week.
What we are working on now: We are planning on Skyping our mentor tomorrow in the afternoon to talk about certain etiquette manors we need to use during our event. We are also going to talk about whether or not she already has an event coming up soon we could join her on.
What we will be working on next week: Next, we will be working on setting up an event to lead where we will be doing makeovers on women and hearing their stories. If our mentor has an event coming up soon that she will allow us to join, then we will be preparing for what she has set up. We are excited to see where this project takes us! -Saylor and Naomi
What we accomplished this week:
Unfortunately, this week we had a minor set back. Saylor and I were not able tofind a good time to meet and get in contact with our mentor. We were very busy and were not able to get very far with our plan this week. What we are working on right now:
Due to our set back, we are working on finding a time to get together and get in contact with our mentor. It is very important that we talk with her so we can ask her a few important questions. We are very lucky to have Char Braden as our mentor to help us with this project. What we are planning to work on:
Next, we are planning to either meet with our mentor or have another Skype call with her to consult with her. We also want to find a place to bring our project to and help women in a program of some sort. In addition, we need to begin planning our TED talk to display our progress for anyone who comes to listen.
What we accomplished this week:
This week we finished testing and putting together our homemade lip balm. Saylor and I met with each other multiple times to discuss what we are doing next. What we are doing this week:
We are going to get in contact with our mentor this week to keep in touch with her. We have a few questions for her about proper etiquette with the women who we will be giving the makeovers to. We will also get input on the exact makeup we should use and how we should apply it. We will be calling our mentor hopefully on Wednesday of this week. What we are planning next week:
Next week, we will be seeing where we are going to bless these women. We will be getting in touch with our mentor this week, but next week we will start discussing places, dates and times for our project.

What we accomplished this week:
This week we successfully accomplished doing more research on our lip balm! We are taking our time with this part of the project because we want our lip balm to be something that almost everyone can use. We understand that some people have certain allergies or issues with using any type of makeup, so we want to be thorough and careful with our ingredients. What we are planning to do:
The things are planning to gather for the lip balm as mentioned in last week's blog, 1/4 cup oil, 1/4 cup of shea or cocoa butter, a type of
wax like soy wax, essential oils, and powdered herbs for color, we are getting from our local grocery store or Amazon. What we are working on right now:
Right now, we are working on gathering all our ingredients and planning exactly where to find each ingredient. After we go to the store and get all of our ingredients we will begin experimenting and making our lip balm.

Hello! This week my partner, Naomi
and I, have been working on finding ingredients for our lip balm that we will
be attempting to make from home. We have found a type of homemade lip balm that
is very healthy for your lips and it is also something that many people love.
The ingredients include 1/4 cup oil, 1/4 cup of shea or cocoa butter, a type of
wax like soy wax, essential oils, and powdered herbs for color. We will begin
trying it out and trying to make it this week. The prices to get these supplies
will not be very expensive. We will have a budget of 50 dollars. We are
researching where to find the supplies and the costs of them this week. Most of
the supplies will be able to be found a regular grocery stores or online. We are
both so excited to see how this lip balm turns out!
This weeks blog will be about how this project might be helpful for our future and college. A successful project like ours can help my partner and I standout to colleges. Colleges look for students who not only do well in school but also students who can show their creativity and ability to go further than themselves to help others. They want someone who can excel in their profession with the skills they have and then learn more to make themselves better. This project helps us learn how to do things on our own and connect with people outside in the professional world instead having a teacher or parent do it for us. Skills like these will help us in college but also in our personal lives. Depending on what career we go into, we might need these skills every single day or at least for part of our job. As we mature into adults, it is essential we have problem solving skills to help us when we run into issues with everything from work to personal struggles. When we have our own kids, we can pass down our knowledge to them so they can have the same skills one day too. Potentially, this project can have a very positive effect on our lives if we utilize it to our advantage.
